Render Network now supports Blender Cycles, offering high-performance decentralized GPU rendering. This integration marks a significant milestone for the open-source 3D ecosystem.

Render Network has officially launched public support for Blender Cycles, providing nearly unlimited high-performance GPU rendering capabilities to the open-source 3D ecosystem. This announcement comes after a six-month beta testing phase involving a group of skilled artists, according to Render Network.

Integration with Blender Cycles

The integration of Blender Cycles onto the Render Network was first previewed at RenderCon. This development is a critical step in executing Render Network Proposal (RNP-014), which aims to support millions of Blender users by leveraging the network’s vast decentralized GPU rendering resources. This initiative underscores the commitment to democratizing 3D content creation with open and professional-grade tools.

For the past year, Blender users have accessed the Render Network without a subscription, thanks to OTOY’s provision of full Octane licenses. This has enabled millions of Blender artists to utilize the industry-leading GPU path-tracing render engine.

Expansion and Future Developments

Blender Cycles now joins Maxon’s Redshift and OctaneRender on the Render Network, broadening the scope of available GPU render engines. The support for Arnold Render is expected to enter beta testing soon. In addition, a Blender Wizard is in development to facilitate native .blend file support, offering seamless access to high-performance GPU cloud rendering directly from Blender’s interface.

The Render Network’s ongoing support for the Blender ecosystem includes its role as a Corporate Patron in the Blender Development Fund, further supporting Blender’s sustainable development.

Educational Resources and Community Engagement

To assist users, the Render Network provides comprehensive documentation and a 20-part video tutorial series led by Steven Scott. These resources are designed to optimize Blender workflows on the Render Network.

Additionally, the Render Network Foundation has launched the Render Royale art competition, which offers monthly prizes for artworks created using Cycles. Larger projects can benefit from the Foundation’s Grant Program, which provides compute credits for ambitious creative endeavors.

Blender users are encouraged to try the Cycles integration at https://render.x.io/. For support and further information, the Render Knowledge Base and live chat support within the Render portal are available.
