NVIDIA unveils groundbreaking advancements in physical AI, combining neural rendering, 3D generation, and simulation to enhance robotics and autonomous systems, as presented at SIGGRAPH 2025.

NVIDIA is making significant strides in the field of physical AI by leveraging its expertise in neural rendering, 3D generation, and world simulation. These advancements are set to power robotics, autonomous vehicles, and content creation, according to NVIDIA’s recent showcase at SIGGRAPH 2025, a premier computer graphics conference held in Vancouver.

Breakthroughs in Neural Rendering and Simulation

At SIGGRAPH, NVIDIA’s research team, which has been a pioneer in AI and graphics for nearly two decades, revealed new software libraries for physical AI. These include the NVIDIA Omniverse NuRec 3D Gaussian splatting libraries for large-scale world reconstruction and updates to the NVIDIA Metropolis platform for vision AI. Additionally, NVIDIA introduced Cosmos and Nemotron reasoning models, designed to enable robots and vision AI agents to reason like humans by utilizing prior knowledge and physics understanding.

Sanja Fidler, NVIDIA’s Vice President of AI Research, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between AI and simulation. “AI is advancing our simulation capabilities, and our simulation capabilities are advancing AI systems,” Fidler stated, highlighting the unique integration of these fields within NVIDIA’s research efforts.

Creating Realistic Virtual Environments

The development of physical AI begins with the creation of high-fidelity, physically accurate 3D environments. These environments are crucial for training advanced AI systems, such as humanoid robots, in simulations that can effectively translate to real-world applications. Ming-Yu Liu, NVIDIA’s Vice President of Research, noted the importance of virtual environments that feel real, allowing robots to learn safely through trial and error.

NVIDIA’s legacy in ray tracing and real-time computer graphics, dating back to its research organization’s inception in 2006, underpins the realism required for physical AI simulations. The company’s advancements in neural rendering are pivotal in creating true-to-reality virtual worlds that train sophisticated AI systems.

Innovations Driving Future AI Tools

NVIDIA’s global research team presented over a dozen papers at SIGGRAPH, showcasing advancements in neural rendering, real-time path tracing, synthetic data generation, and reinforcement learning. These innovations are expected to fuel the next generation of physical AI tools, enabling applications such as agricultural robots and precision manufacturing systems.

Aaron Lefohn, Vice President of Graphics Research at NVIDIA, explained how the company’s core rendering research is instrumental in creating virtual environments from images. “We’re now at a point where we can take pictures and videos and rapidly reconstruct them into virtual 3D environments,” he said, underscoring the transformative potential of NVIDIA’s technologies.
