NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor Developer Kit, featuring Blackwell GPUs and Arm CPUs, aims to accelerate autonomous vehicle development with enhanced AI capabilities and safety compliance.
The rapidly evolving landscape of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology has taken a significant leap forward with NVIDIA’s announcement of the DRIVE AGX Thor Developer Kit. This cutting-edge platform is designed to meet the growing needs of modern vehicles, requiring advanced perception, sensor fusion, and comprehensive environment understanding, according to NVIDIA.
The DRIVE AGX Thor Developer Kit is powered by NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and next-generation Arm CPUs, integrated with the advanced NVIDIA DriveOS 7 software stack. This platform is developed to meet the ISO 26262 ASIL-D functional safety and ISO 21434 security standards, ensuring a secure and reliable environment for implementing AI at the edge. The platform empowers automotive OEMs, Tier-1 software providers, and researchers to enhance autonomous driving capabilities and the in-vehicle experience, accelerating the journey toward intelligent mobility.
As the flagship System on Chip (SoC) of the DRIVE family, Thor significantly enhances system performance, efficiency, and feature flexibility compared to its predecessors. It supports a wide range of automotive-standard interfaces and allows seamless prototyping and validation across various use cases. The developer kit is available in different SKUs, tailored for bench development and in-vehicle integration, with pre-orders now open for delivery in September 2025.
NVIDIA DriveOS 7 provides a robust software foundation for AVs, combining high-performance AI computing with real-time processing capabilities. The integration of NVIDIA TensorRT 10 enhances AI performance, offering improved memory efficiency and expanded V3 plugin support. The DriveOS LLM SDK Runtime further supports efficient deployment of large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) directly within vehicles, enabling advanced features like multimodal inference and driver monitoring.
The DRIVE AGX Thor platform emphasizes safety and security, targeting the highest levels of compliance with ISO 26262 ASIL-D and ISO 21434 standards. Enhanced CUDA 13 capabilities and the integrated NVIDIA DriveWorks suite ensure a comprehensive development ecosystem for automotive applications, promoting a smooth transition from early-stage development to vehicle-level deployment.
