NVIDIA, in partnership with Oracle, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to build the largest AI supercomputer for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This collaboration is set to significantly accelerate scientific discovery and innovation, according to NVIDIA Newsroom.

The project, unveiled at the GTC event in Washington, D.C., will see the construction of two cutting-edge systems, Solstice and Equinox, at Argonne National Laboratory. Solstice will be equipped with a record-breaking 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, while Equinox will feature 10,000, both interconnected by NVIDIA networking technology. Together, they will deliver a combined 2,200 exaflops of AI performance, marking a new era in AI-powered scientific research.

Advancing AI for Scientific Discovery

The supercomputers will utilize NVIDIA’s Megatron-Core library and TensorRT inference software stack, enabling scientists to develop and train frontier models for open science.
