Ethereum developers focused on Pectra and PeerDAS upgrades during the All Core Developers Consensus Call #151, discussing client readiness and EIP finalizations.

During the All Core Developers Consensus Call #151, held on February 20, 2025, Ethereum developers convened to discuss crucial updates and upgrades concerning the Ethereum network. The meeting, chaired by Ethereum Foundation Researcher Alex Stokes, focused on the Pectra and PeerDAS upgrades, according to galaxy.com.

Pectra Devnet 6 Stability

The developers reported smooth operations on Pectra Devnet 6, with EF Developer Operations Engineer “Pk910” confirming stability across updated clients. Testing on the MEV workflow was progressing well, though an issue with the Flashbots builder was noted. System contracts for Pectra have been deployed across Holesky, Sepolia, and Ethereum mainnet, ensuring readiness for upcoming developments.

Prysm developer “Radek” highlighted issues related to attestation aggregations, prompting discussions on handling attestations under EIP 7549. The differences in client strategies could pose challenges on the Holesky testnet, suggesting the need for further testing before the Pectra upgrade.

PeerDAS Devnet 5 Adjustments

Changes to PeerDAS, affecting the execution layer (EL), are planned for Devnet 5. EF Applied Researcher Kevaundray Wedderburn mentioned the temporary removal of EOF from EL code to test PeerDAS changes in isolation. Discussions are expected in the upcoming ACD call to reach consensus on transaction types for PeerDAS and EOF.

Stokes noted an update to PeerDAS design, outsourcing proof computation from the consensus layer to the execution layer. This adjustment requires a change to EIP 7549 and will be discussed in future meetings.

Blob Capacity in Fusaka

Developers aim to increase blob capacity in Fusaka, targeting a maximum limit of 50 blobs. The concept of blob parameter-only (BPO) forks was revisited, offering a flexible upgrade path without the complexities of a standard hard fork. While seen as a potential solution, developers prefer to explore direct capacity increases first.

Finalization of EIP 7872 and EIP 7870

The call concluded with agreements to finalize EIP 7872, concerning max blob flags for local builders, and EIP 7870, providing hardware and bandwidth recommendations for validators. Discussions highlighted the impact of liquid staking on validator profitability, emphasizing the need for adaptable recommendations in a rapidly changing protocol environment.

The next steps involve further testing and discussions to ensure readiness for the Pectra upgrade and PeerDAS adjustments, with the Holesky Pectra upgrade scheduled for February 24, 2025.
